Story : Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Buster Moon a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal-some might even say delusional-optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life's ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition.

Watching a musical with 85 classic songs may seem a daunting process. Especially one with animals as main characters, as there’s been a glut of that kind this year (Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets, Zootopia, etc.) Yet, the way music blends into the narrative is not only refreshing, but thoroughly enjoyable. Like all good musicals, the movie uses songs to drive the story forward. The characters are remarkably cute and stay with you long after the film ends.
The story is not ground-breaking. To save his failing music theatre, Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a madly optimistic koala, decides to host a singing competition and finds a motley group of contestants — stay-at-home mum Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), a pig with 25 kids who has given up on her dreams of becoming a singer; Johnny (Taron Egerton), the mountain gorilla who doesn’t want to live a life of crime like his father; Ash (Scarlett Johansson), an edgy punk-rocker hedgehog who hates pop music and is in a toxic relationship with her rocker boyfriend; Mike, a feisty mouse who believes size doesn’t matter; and Meena (Tori Kelly), an elephant with the voice of an angel who lives in a perpetual state of stage fright. Each of them has their own secrets, but they share one common trait --- they are truly talented and driven. Even minor characters, like Buster’s bumbling one-eyed assistant, an iguana who is voiced by the director himself, have fun parts to play. The film keeps you hooked right from the audition rounds to the spectacular grand finale.
